The Chocolate Box — See’s Piece by Piece #13 — Mocha Buttercream

Chocolate BoxLike a cup of coffee brewed just right, See’s Candies’ Milk Chocolate Mocha Buttercream is good to the last drop.

This week’s See’s Piece by Piece is a longtime favorite that combines several tastes I enjoy. If you like a strong coffee flavor in your candies, this piece will be like cream in your coffee.

seesmocha Description:
The mocha buttercream is number 28 in the See’s catalog and website. Maybe just under an inch long and a half inch thick, it is rectangular in shape and the top and sides are covered with chocolate sprinkles. This candy is only available with the milk chocolate coating. The inside is a smooth, coffee-colored buttercream. It looks very appealing, although that could be just because I know what comes next!

Taste:
With this candy, it is not the coffee notes adding depth and sharpness to the chocolate, it is the chocolate mellowing out the coffee flavor. The first taste is not of the milk chocolate covering, but the somewhat intense coffee milk chocolate buttercream. Then the milk chocolate begins to melt in your mouth and meld with the smooth filling to highlight and soften the coffee taste and give it a hint of soft fruit and a hit of sweetness. When the chocolate note is finished, the rich buttercream seems to coat the tongue so the taste stays and stays with you, even after the candy is long gone. The more time passes, the more the sweetness of the candy fades. In the end it is like a long, tall, low-acid coffee latte with an extra heavy dusting of cocoa powder and chocolate shavings. And chocolate sprinkles.

See’s Trivia:
Did you know that 76 percent of all See’s candies are chocolate covered? Or that See’s now delivers 1,400,926 pounds of candy each year by mail through its website and catalogs?

Ingredients:
Milk Chocolate Coating (Sugar, Milk, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate, Soy Lecithin, Vanillin), Sugar, Cream, Corn Syrup, Cocoa Butter, Milk, Butter, Chocolate, Coffee, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Vanillin, Confectionery Glaze.

Well-Fed Network Ratings:
As compared to other See’s Candies, I would rate this a solid 9+ on a scale of 1 to 10. Pro: Remarkable, long lasting, satisfying taste. Con: If you don’t like the java jive, this cup of joe in candy form won’t make your taste buds perk.
